Principal Systems Engineer for the World’s Premier RF Semiconductor Company 

 

Summary:

Qorvo is currently seeking a principal level system engineer responsible for driving innovation and technology of our leading-edge RF technology and products.  This will involve advanced research, system level architecture trades, RF line-up analysis, simulation, requirements development, gap analysis, standards participation, customer engagement, and strategic road mapping activities.

The ideal candidate is someone with an in-depth background in design and development of RF circuits and RF systems but has broader insight into the larger system architecture and a pulse on technology and trends. As a system engineer in the advanced development group you would be responsible for researching the state-of-the-art, proposing innovative solutions to challenging problems, gathering customer requirements, and formulating the strategic product and technology roadmaps to senior management.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Research RF semiconductor technology, technology trends, RF/system architectures, and identify key market trends in order to create and communicate a technical vision leading to innovative and disruptive RF products
  • Drive RF strategy, product roadmap, and technology roadmaps for infrastructure markets including: 5G base-station, WiFi, IoT, Automotive, and Transport
  • Systems engineering and analysis including RF line-up analysis, link-budgets, system modeling, architecture studies, and advanced technology development including tuners, digital-predistortion, filters, and antennas.
  • Standards engagement including 3GPP RAN4, 5GAA, and IEEE802.11
  • Support commercial infrastructure Tier1 customer engagement in order to gather requirements and present the research and analysis supporting the market shaping product definition for 5G macro base-stations, mass-MIMO, small-cell, eLAA, V2X, and other systems
  • Advanced efficiency boosting PA design and simulation
  • Support market shaping products through critical lifecycle stages including concept/feasibility, and development.

 

Qualifications:

  • Expert-level understanding of radio systems, including architecture, device technology, antenna design, simulation, system architecture, and calibration challenges and techniques
  • Recent and relevant experience designing microwave/millimeter-wave MMIC amplifiers, switches, phase shifters, attenuators, mixers, filters, hybrid multichip modules, or transmit/receive front-end modules (FEMs).
  • Experience in advanced III-V compound semiconductor technologies, specifically GaN and GaAs. 
  • Experience in high power base-station discrete power amplifier and Doherty design in LDMOS and GaN.
  • Experience in mobile cellular RF design and automotive telematics design.
  • Recent use of either ADS or Microwave Office (MWO) RF circuit and system simulators including EM analysis using HFSS, CST, or Momentum.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to concisely summarize highly technical concepts.

 

Desired Experiences:

  • Radio system design, simulation, and calibration, including antenna design is desired
  • Design of high-performance GaAs or GaN MMIC power amplifiers with simultaneous power, bandwidth, efficiency, and linearity requirements.
  • SiGe/SOI and/or CMOS-based RFIC/MMIC, analog, and mixed signal design experience is a plus.
  • Published author in technical journals and/or magazines.
  • Strong ability to interpret customer technical needs

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • PhD Electrical Engineering (with RF/Microwave focus) with 7 or more years relevant experience
  • M.S. with 15 years or more relevant experience

 

Work Location:  Richardson, TX (preferred location); Greensboro, NC (alternate); other remote options available pending candidate’s experience.
