OVERVIEW/SUMMARY:
Our Global Operations Business Unit is seeking a Sr Failure Analysis Engineer to join its Quality division. Reporting to the Failure Analysis Manager the Sr. Failure Analysis Engineer will perform failure analysis to determine failure root-causes on yield fall-out, aging & environmental stress failures, and customer returns supporting products at wafer development through fully deployed products contained in mobile/cellular/wireless and other RF communications devices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct hands-on failure analysis activities for semiconductor manufacturing in collaboration with circuit design, product, process, & test engineers throughout the company.
- Comprehend product functions, product circuits, device structure and fab processes to understand the various factors that can lead to failures of the circuits/products.
- Perform DC electrical testing, circuit analysis/trouble shooting, fault isolation, micro-probing, de-processing, material analysis and failure duplication.
- Plan, schedule & conduct full cycle failure analysis to include detailed phases of failure mechanism investigations.
- Document and maintain analysis information, results and complete analysis reports.
- Interface with internal and external customers, suppliers and analytical laboratories and perform cost/benefit analysis to determine where capital-intensive tasks may be outsourced.
- Drive quality improvement and provide corrective action recommendations.
- As applicable, mentor/train other team members in physics of failure, analytical techniques, and analysis methodology.
- Benchmark failure analysis methods, systems, and operations at other semiconductor manufacturers and act as a facilitator of continuous improvement, working on proactive and preventative changes.
- Work independently on multiple tasks concurrently and adjust to changing priorities.
Work environment:
- Requires significant hours in a cleanroom/lab environment with noisy environmental test chambers.
- May require de-processing and decapsulation of semiconductor products using chemicals and gases.
- Light travel up to 10% to visit customers, interface with subcontractors, and audit suppliers is possible.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree, in electrical engineering, solid state physics, chemistry or material science discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in semiconductor yield or failure analysis.
- 3+ years of circuit analysis and electrical trouble shooting experience
- Prior work experience in a cleanroom/lab environment.
- Experience with any of the following tools/techniques: Optical/Electron Microscopy, Micro-probing of electrical circuits, Non-Destructive Inspection Tools (e.g. X-Ray and Scanning Acoustic Microscopy)
PREFERRED:
- Master’s degree preferred with applicable experience.
- Experience in semiconductor fabrication, inspection, assembly, and test methods desirable.
- Experience with semiconductor processing and analysis equipment is desirable.
- Experience handling semiconductor wafers, using microscopes, probe stations, and test equipment is desirable.
- Experience with curve tracing and/or parametric test programming languages is preferred.
