Seeking a self-motivated and responsible technician to support quick-turn Greensboro’s Prototype Assembly - Surface Mount Technology (SMT) work center.

This includes but is not limited to Equipment Maintenance, Assembly Order (AO) Reviews, Equipment Programming, Stencil generation/ordering, Process troubleshooting and Continual Improvement opportunities.

The individual must be able to complete equipment and process development projects assigned by the Engineering Supervisor.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively Use ASM Siplace Software. Key Focus on Engineering Reviews of Assembly Orders and Programming of SMT related equipment.
  • Design and order of SMT stencils – using GC PowerPlace software.
  • Troubleshoot and solve novel to difficult SMT processing issues.
  • Perform equipment maintenance (scheduled and unscheduled) to ensure tools are safe and running effectively.                                                                         
  • Lead efforts to track down and resolve, downtime, yield, and quality issues.
  • Play an active role in continuous improvements focused on cycle-time and quality efforts.
  • Have keen attention to detail and the dexterity necessary for working with small SMD components.
  • Maintain stencil inventory. 
  • Responsible for writing purchase requisitions for tools, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor when faced with challenging situations.
  • Effectively communicate with all team members (including off shift teams, assemblers, fellow technicians, engineers, and Supervisors) – sharing equipment & process details encountered during the shift.   May also be asked to interface with (internal) customers by communicating timelines and/or process issues that impact delivery dates or product quality.
  • Help edit and maintain SMT work instructions.
  • The individual oversees maintaining quick AO Reviews and Stencil Ordering.  They must clearly communicate any problems that can affect build quality or cycle-time to the area Supervisor and Managers. This position has no direct reports.

 

Qualifications 

Required:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • SMT equipment and process experience.
  • Safety oriented with strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Equipment troubleshooting skills.
  • Quality focused and capable of working in a fast-paced, high-mix/medium-volume environment and able to find quick solutions to immediate problems.
  • Able to oversee appropriate projects and clearly communicate any problems. Especially projects that can affect build quality or cycle time.
  • Effective communication skills with other groups and maintaining consistent collaboration with opposite shift members, group-leads, and supervision.
  • Ability to manage projects from beginning to end, document, and train with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality with appropriate materials and processes.
  • Decision making skills regarding product quality, reliability, cost, cycle time, and delivery to customers.

Preferred:

  • Two-year technical degree: mechanical, electrical, and/or electronic.
  • Technical experience with ASM Equipment, AutoCAD, and GC PowerPlace.
