SOI Design Engineer

This engineer will be responsible for the design and development of SOI RFICs for mobile handset applications. The candidate will work with a group of analog/RF IC design experts in development of cellular handset RFICs that have RF switches, couplers, controllers, and various RF and analog functional blocks. The candidate will be supported by an established team representing program management, applications, layout, characterization, reliability, quality, and logistics. 



  • Design and development of RF switches and supporting analog circuitry (including bandgaps, charge pumps, LDOs, level shifters, etc.) for cellular handset tuning applications, primarily utilizing SOI technologies
  • Manage design tradeoffs on performance, risk, yield, testability, and cost
  • Troubleshoot issues with RF and analog designs using lab equipment. Support characterization team to analyze data and improve product performance
  • Write and present peer reviews of designs, including expected and/or measured results
  • Write regular updates on design/evaluation status
  • Execute to an aggressive product schedule. 



  • 5+ years of experience in switch, LNA, and/or silicon RFIC design
  • Expert-level experience in RF-CMOS silicon technologies, especially SOI and SOS
  • Strong understanding of silicon fabrication and how it affects the device physics, device modeling, circuit performance, and yield
  • Working knowledge of device physics, especially tradeoffs for switch implementations and analog circuitry
  • Expert-level experience designing with Cadence, including expert experience in layout (Layout-XL, matching, ESD, etc)
  • Strong understanding and practical expertise of both on-die and in-package coupling mechanisms is required, including modeling and simulation using EM simulations at the die and package level
  • Demonstrated experience debugging, resolving, and applying techniques to mitigate analog/RF/mixed signal noise issues and RF coupling
  • Strong understanding of microwave measurements and calibration methods: S-parameters, power, efficiency, source/load pull, noise figure, linearity, and intermodulation distortion
  • Basic knowledge of on-chip ESD protection circuits and tests
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • BS Electrical Engineering with 7 or more years of experience, or MS Electrical Engineering with 3 or more years of experience, or PhD Electrical Engineering (with RF/Microwave focus) with relevant experience.
