Qorvo is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety manager to lead all aspects of risk-based EHS programs for our Greensboro Facility. In this role supporting the semiconductor manufacturing operations and electronics development labs, you will be responsible for overseeing the performance and growth of the environmental, health and safety programs for the Greensboro site, and collaboration with Corporate EHS on standards development for the broader Qorvo organization. The EHS Manager has key responsibilities for ensuring ongoing with state and federal legislation as applicable to the organization and managing critical relationships and issued permits with regulatory agencies.

 

This position will be responsible to create, implement and monitor EHS strategies to promote a safe and healthy work place for our employees. Role scope includes all Qorvo operations on the campus and includes conducting periodic audits and assessments, identifying and resolving problems and ensuring necessary changes are implemented. This role will also support our Corporate EHS objectives and will actively engage as a key member of the EHS Leadership Team driving standards and improvements across our portfolio of manufacturing and design centers worldwide.

 

The candidate will develop, coordinate and perform EHS functions critical to the operations of the plant. The EHS manager will partner with leadership in operations, facilities, quality, engineering, R&D and other departments to promote EHS compliance and the implementation of procedures and training consistent with Qorvo’s policies and guidelines. As with all management positions, the successful candidate will build and maintain effective relationships with the plant management, employees, community and our regulators.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Driving continuous improvement in the performance of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Management System in place at the Qorvo campus located in Greensboro, NC
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to implemented EHS programs, including management of all contact with appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Ensuring appropriate environmental permits (air, water, wastewater, and hazardous waste) are maintained in good standing including renewals, required reporting, permit modifications, and required notifications
  • Staying up to date with evolving EHS regulations and informing management of relevant changes
  • Overseeing and participating in site EHS inspections and audits including but not limited to corporate, insurance, regulatory, customer, quality and others as needed
  • Managing the development, planning, standardization, and implementation of the site EHS Management System including policies, procedures, business processes and prevention initiatives that support the continuous improvement of site operations
  • Developing and overseeing training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety
  • Overseeing regulated hazardous waste accumulation and disposal, and monitoring of all site waste handling
  • Governing the site Emergency Response Team activities, including training, equipment and response protocols and, as needed, serving as the point of contact for emergency personnel
  • Using appropriate communications and escalations to inform upper management of all EHS related events including, but not limited to, injuries, illnesses, and emergency incidents, including updates on root cause and corrective & preventive action development and implementation as needed
  • Routinely assessing potential operational risks and safety metric data and leading hazard/risk reduction strategies and initiatives, including ensuring appropriate Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) are completed
  • Participating in Corporate EHS initiatives and standardization efforts as needed
  • Assisting affected business groups with the establishment and routine business reporting of EHS objectives, goals, strategies and key performance indices
  • Tracking and maintaining incident records and completed reports required by law and company policy, including first aid and near miss reports, incident investigations, etc.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting of EHS related data for annual Sustainability Reporting.
  • Implementing short term reduction actions for GHGs, Waste and Water use, driving successful projects, and ensuring accurate reporting of key metrics for each category

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental, chemical, or related science or engineering field
  • Execution acumen and knowledge of EHS programs and regulatory regulations and requirements applicable to the Semiconductor manufacturing industry
  • 8+ years of EHS Management experience in semiconductor, electronics manufacturing or other chemically intensive manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrated success developing, mentoring, and managing a staff of EHS professionals
  • Has technical experience and knowledge in occupational health and safety with a strong emphasis on chemical safety and compatibility, NFPA fire and electrical safety, and radiation safety
  • Has technical experience and knowledge in the area of environmental management including, but not limited to Water, Air, Waste, DOT, and ISO 14001
  • Proficiency in LEAN and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles
  • Project management experience with demonstrated root cause analyses and problem solving capabilities
  • Driven to identify innovative EHS solutions that enhance safety performance, reduce costs and promote long term sustainability
  • Able to run effective meetings with focus on problem statement, current state, ideal state and resulting actions
  • Able to build, motivate and lead cross-functional teams to meet project goals and deliver measurable results
  • Able to recognize the need, and effectively escalate in the event conflict or misalignment threatens the success of a project
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence and drive messaging on complex content, in front of peers
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, influence, manage and drive results
  • Strong influencing skills with the courage to confidently express an independent point of view
  • Strong computer literacy skills including mastery knowledge of Microsoft suite (outlook, excel, word, power-point)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 program development
  • Professional certification as CIH, CSP, CHMM or similar credential
  • Experience with VelocityEHS software
  • Previous experience as an RSO
