SUMMARY 

The Staff Applications Engineer provides required  mobile/cellular applications support during product development to ensure that Qorvo components are successfully designed into customer’s mobile products. He/she works as part of a team with various functional groups such as design engineering, marketing, quality, field application engineering, and sales. Additionally, this role performs the following functions:

  • Generate and provide complex RF performance (ET) data related to our parts per customer requests as well as resolve any customer technical issues
  • RF System Analysis to help define and promote our RF components in cellular handsets
  • Develop a deep understanding of the architecture utilized for the RF portions of customers’ handsets
  • Investigate why certain components are chosen and understand the key technical considerations that drive component selection 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reproduce, analyze, and solve technical issues identified on customer platforms in lab environment to demonstrate solutions that meet customer performance expectations
  • Work with design and system engineers to help in the creation of new product specifications and compliance matrices
  • Provide technical support to design teams through measured data, lab experiments, and tuning/optimization of device settings in order to achieve the best tradeoffs of various RF parameters
  • Support field application teams and travel to Qorvo labs or customers’ sites when customer issues arise or technical training is required
  • Support Design, Architecture Engineering, and Product Marketing with new product definition
  • Apply 4G / 5G system knowledge to help optimize performance of integrated RF Front End (RFFE) modules.
  • RFFE module Evaluation Board (EVB) design
  • Perform competitive technical analyses that enable marketing to determine next generation product performance targets
  • Optimize ET performance of all RFFE modules
  • Assist customers in the design of their Qorvo-based hardware including helping them make appropriate trade-offs to meet their system needs
  • Review customer RF schematics and PCB layouts
  • Support FAEs and customers with their mobile product development throughout all design phases
  • Work with Qorvo design engineering and marketing teams during product development to ensure Qorvo products meet customers’ requirements
  • Liaise with Sales & Marketing departments to identify technical requirements and help define and develop new highly integrated RF products
  • Customize specialized applications according to client needs
  • Continuously assess & improve processes & tools
  • Support marketing and sales teams in generating new design wins through evaluation and optimization of high highly integrated handset RF RFFEs
  • Provide customers, both internal and external to Qorvo with RF technical product support at the RF component and system levels
  • Perform detailed application circuit design and tuning for Qorvo RFFEs

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or BSEE in Electrical Engineering (or foreign equivalent) required
  • 6+ years of experience working hands-on with RF components and various architecture
  • Hands-on experience with RF circuit/system design and debugging is required
  • Deep experience in wireless communication systems and circuit design. Mobile handset experience is a big plus
  • Knowledge in RF systems design including link budgets/cascade analysis
  • Deep experience with RF circuit design, impedance matching, and board layout tools
  • Operating knowledge of standard RF test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, etc.) is necessary
  • Direct experience with wireless standards (GSM, WCDMA, CDMA, LTE, 5G) is preferred
  • Familiarity with 3GPP RF specifications and test methods
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and a willingness to ask questions when needed to get work accomplished
  • Experience with ADS or other RF simulation tools is desirable
  • RF Envelope Tracking (ET) and Power Tracking (APT) experience is a plus
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain an understanding of the Customer and his needs
  • Excellent RF problem solving skills with a strong desire to see the customer succeed
  • Strong communications skills: interpersonal, written, and presentation
  • Ability to understand and breakdown complex, multifaceted RF projects into manageable pieces
