EHS Engineer

SUMMARY:
We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer who develops, implements, and maintains a safe, healthy, secure and compliant workplace by applying health, safety, and environmental expertise. This position will be responsible for coordination of manufacturing safety, emergency response, environmental compliance, and promoting continuous improvement initiatives to reduce Qorvo’s environmental footprint.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and lead the EHS programs, policies and procedures of the organization to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Prepare and maintain reports related to the facility’s EHS programs in compliance with corporate expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine internal EHS audits and support external audits for ISO14001:2015 certification, Corporate Social Responsibility compliance, and customer requests.
- Support new chemical reviews and approvals as well as maintaining the SDS online management system.
- Manage accident administration processes including investigation, review reporting and accident prevention follow-up. Investigate the "near miss" accident situations and develop accident prevention solutions and policies.
- Coordinate and conduct regular EHS training and orientation as required.
- Participate on Qorvo Corporate cross-site EHS Collaboration team.
- Provide leadership for site safety committee and emergency response teams.
- Manage environmental compliance including air permit, industrial wastewater permit and hazardous waste.
- Effectively manage multiple tasks, with ability to delegate tasks which can be performed by support personnel or other professionals.
- Work independently to identify, plan and complete work that has a positive impact on worker safety, health, and environmental protection.
- Interact with all levels of organization, including management, technicians, and maintenance staff to ensure a consistent understanding and adherence to both regulatory and site requirements.
- Proven ability to develop presentations for stakeholders on EHS standards, regulations, policies, procedures, and lessons learned.
- Ability to identify EHS issues, develop action plans to address issues, execute the plans, and evaluate program success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, environmental engineering, or similar field of study. MS degree and/or recognized EHS certification preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience as an EHS professional; recent master’s degree graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Experience in a fast-paced, advanced technology or chemical manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Oregon OSHA, Department of Environmental Quality, and other relevant standards (NEC, IFC, IBC, NFPA)..
- Prior experience with hazardous materials management, collection, storage of hazardous waste and proper shipping requirements.
- Experience with Electrical Safety (LOTO, Energized Electrical Work, Arc Flash), Job Hazard Assessments, Fire Protection Systems, HAZWOPER, & Emergency Response Teams.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; proven effective interaction between departments and projects using experienced program management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to listen to the needs of the individual and analyze resolution methods in a professional and economical manner.
- Ability to interact with and positively influence employees at all levels of the organization.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities/projects at the same time.
- Drive action items to closure within required timelines, both independently and within a team.
- Experience with building and fire code interpretations, EHS compliance audits, and development and implementation of EHS compliance programs.
- Commitment to facilitating continuous improvement projects and initiatives to reduce Qorvo’s environmental footprint and injury rate.
- Enthusiastic and innovative approach to safety and the environment, while driving positive change.
The Candidate Nice to Have:
- Experience in Industrial Hygiene
- Exposure to environmental compliance
- Experience with Injury Free, behavioral safety and ergonomics
- Leadership or supervision experience
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 and/or 45001
- Willingness to contribute to a small organization in responsibilities outside a typical EHS role
